Main Bloom Time: Early spring, Late spring, Mid spring. Form: Pyramidal, Upright or erect, Weeping.

Juniperus scopulorum is an evergreen Tree growing to 10 m by 4 m at a slow rate.
It is hardy to zone 3. It is in leaf all year, in flower from April to May, and the seeds ripen in October. The species is dioecious . and is pollinated by Wind. The plant is not self-fertile.
Suitable for: light , medium and heavy soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought. The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.

Cultivation

Landscape Uses:Alpine garden, Border, Screen, Specimen, Street tree. Succeeds in most soils, including chalk, so long as they are well drained, preferring a neutral or slightly alkaline soil. A drought tolerant species once established, succeeding in hot dry positions. Plants are fairly wind-resistant. A long-lived but slow-growing tree in its native range, it is very slow growing in Britain where it only makes a shrub. Closely allied to J. virginiana and hybridising with it where the ranges meet. It differs mainly in the fruit, which takes two years to mature in this species instead of one. Plants are resistant to honey fungus. This tree is apparently resistant to the rust fungus that attacks the closely related J. virginiana. Dioecious. Male and female plants must be grown if seed is required. Special Features:North American native, Fragrant foliage, Inconspicuous flowers or blooms.

Habitatsfoothills and bluffs in montane areas or in dry habitats of the coastal forest region. The best specimens are found on slightly alkaline soils.
